Cheer up, it can´t get worse. She cheered up and it got worse!

Chiara was sitting in her apartment, smoking one cigarette after the other and she couldn´t stop thinking of the only man, she had ever loved. It makes her feel sad, already thoughts of him make her heart beat faster but on the other hand her heard starts aching.

It all started in a small town at the east coast, where Chiara wanted to spend her holidays, until everything changed. Nobody would have ever thought that it would come like this. She was visiting friends, she knew from back home and enjoyed the quietness and tried to forget the stress at university for those couple of days.

Chiara rented a small cottage with pool and a boat. It was picturesque. The birds were sitting in the lemon tree in front of her bedroom window and it all seemed so perfect, until the man who was going to change her life showed up. How everything started?

      Chapter 2

One of Chiara´s friends who came over from Seattle took flying lessons at the Page Field. He wanted to pass his IFR, International Flight Rules, and he asked her to come flying with him. Kirk was the brother of Chiara´s ex-boyfriend.

Kirk picked her up quite early in the morning, she crabbed some coffee, and then they headed off. It was a wonderful morning. The thermometer showed 93°F and no cloud was to see.

They were driving along the beach road and Chiara could feel the wind in her hair, she could smell the sea and it seemed like ages ago, that she wasn´t thinking of work or university or master thesis or anything else. She hasn´t felt like this for ages, no hectic, no stress. Nothing to think of, she was completely relaxed, still a bit tired from the jet lack but the coffee seemed to help.

20 minutes later, they arrived at Page Field. It was a small aviation school outside of town. Kirk had to fill in some forms or whatever he had to do for his flying book and disappeared after they entered the building. Chiara went to the other side of the hallway, where the exit to the roll field was. There were many different planes, Lear jets, warriors and so on, most of them Chiara has never seen before.

      Chapter 3

She was standing there for a while until she suddenly heard a voice. Chiara turned round to see who it was and there he stood. A tall, gorgeous looking guy with the brightest blue eyes she had ever seen. Her heart stated beating faster, she became nervous, and her knees got shaky. He only stood there looking right at her until Kirk came out of the office and introduced them.

Kirk said: “Chiara, this is Shawn, my flying instructor”. Chiara was still standing there, looking in his blue eyes and finally managed to answer: “Hmmm, nice to meet you, I am Chiara”. “Nice to meet you to. What´s up? Heard you´re coming flying with us today?”, Shawn said.

“Well, to be honest, I am not sure yet.”

      “Are you scared?”

“No, of course not”. It was actually a lie, but she couldn´t admit that she was. “I might just watch you from here”. “You should come with us; it´s ok nothing to worry about”. Somehow, he made her feel more comfortable. She had no idea why, but she thought that nothing could happen if he was with her.

They strolled over the field to the plane they were flying with and while Kirk was checking the plane, Shawn went back to the building. She learned later on, that he returned to get a sick bag for her, just in case she would have to throw up.

Shawn helped her in the plane and of course, she bumped her head. Things like this always happen to her. The others got seated as well and there was no turning back anymore. Chiara was in the back of this tiny Warrior and got really nervous as the engine started. “Oh, my god, what the hell am I doing here, want to get out,” Chiara was thinking, but then Shawn turned around and smiled at her. Confidence again. “Nothing will happen, he is with me”, she thought.

They flew for about two hours and had lunch at a small restaurant at the Lakefield airport. Shawn and Chiara were only chitchatting and Kirk was interrupting them the whole time and started talking about planes, IFRs and commercial certificates and other things. When they came back to the Page Field, Shawn suddenly disappeared. Chiara heard him say, “bye, see ya later” and he was gone.
