      DEDICATION

This book is dedicated to my high school sweetheart, my best friend, my wife, the mother of our children, Debbie Hall—the only person on this good earth for whom I will make the ultimate sacrifice: at her bidding, I will wear a tie.

This book is written for the sixty-something man who told me he’d devoted 35 years to corporate America. After hearing my Jump Start Your Brain lecture in 2006, he realized how far he’d sunk into conformity; how he’d allowed himself to be pushed into a dull, gray, emotionally numb corner; how he’d adjusted his life to fit the day-to-day world and, finally, how he’d stopped dreaming. He told me he realized that he’d lost the fire.

      But on that day,

he thought I might have helped him rekindle the fire.

It was one of those misty moments. I saw a man in the homestretch of life taking stock of where he’d been and what he’d done—an individual who, once upon a time, could have been anything he’d set his mind to be.

It doesn’t matter if I sell 10 books or 10 million. What’s important is that the message of hope, independence, imagination, and self-reliance makes a difference for you.
