      Part 1

A homeless cat lived in one quiet and cosy town. He ate mice in the street, hunted after the birds, fought with cats, who tried to take away his prey. After one of the regular fight the cat was lying on the pavement with scratched muzzle and broken up paw and thought:

      – How is that? Why do all the other cats live in cosy houses and eat tasty warm food while I have to wander, eat dirty remains of food and worry about every minute of my life?

Having stood up he, limping on his back paw, dragged in search of better life. Going along the streets he saw a beautiful house in the opened window of which was a fried chicken. Its smell was perceived through all the quarter, the cat climbed on the window sill, hardly had he touched the chicken when he heard a wild bark of a dog in the yard, one who was walking without a dog lead. It was a watchdog Jam, he was covered with grey and very curly hair, his eyes were scarcely seen under overgrown fringe. From a distance he looked like a big grey ball of hair.

      – Oh, you, impudent fellow, have you decided that the chicken is yours? – the dog said growling.

      – No, it smelt so deliciously that I decided to bite at least one piece, otherwise I will starve to death, – the cat said with a smile, – do you want me to give you one piece?

      – Ah, you, scoundrel, do you want to share with me my own chicken? – Jam growled and saliva flowed from his mouth.

      – So, it was yours? You are lucky, – then I will live here too in order to eat chicken every day and sleep in the warm house.

While the cat was talking with the dog the lady of the house entered the kitchen, her scream frightened the cat and he fell on the floor, on his ill paw.

      – I got you now, impudent cat. – The dog said with a smile and rushed at the cat.

Scarcely had the paws of the dog appeared near the cat, when the cat was found in the tree, sparing his own hide and taking leave of tasty and scented supper.

      – No, I definitely don`t need this. – The cat said and climbed on the tree to another corner of the yard. – I will go for a walk around the city.

So the days passed when his second winter came. The cat felt hurt because of such life and he decided to starve himself to death.

On a one windy winter day, when everything was covered with snow, the girl Raya saw not far from her house a homeless cat. He was very magnificent, totally black, despite the fact that he was beaten and famished. His eyes were hardly opened because he stopped to wash himself, but nevertheless the girl was sorry about the cat and decided to take him home.
