taught. We find this is the best way of learning Reiki.
In recent years many different styles have emerged, with teachers creating their own attunements and symbols. Courses have become shorter, with two or more levels condensed and taught in a single weekend. We both came to feel that it was time to form a school where the standards were consistently high and in keeping with Dr Usui’s original form.
It was important to honour the historic system of Reiki while adapting its practice to suit the needs of a modern lifestyle. Our aim is to teach creative, informative courses that hold true to Dr Usui’s original vision.
We set up the Reiki School to provide the opportunity for students to receive a high standard of training so that Reiki can be used effectively for self-healing and healing others. Our classes are traditional and up to date. Those seeking a treatment can expect a proficient service from an experienced practitioner. We constantly strive to improve our courses and provide tuition dedicated to the pursuit of healing and self-improvement.
5 Time for Reiki, Time for You
Reiki can be effective, even when time is limited. While a full treatment is ideal, even just 15 minutes can make a significant difference. One of our practitioners gives Reiki to office personnel on a regular basis. They only have a short period of time and are invariably stressed. Most of them receive Reiki for about 10 to 15 minutes, usually during a lunch break. They frequently report feeling calm, alert and energized for the rest of the day.
We would like to share with you some special moments when our hearts have been touched by the healing of others.
GARY’S STORY
Each year we exhibit at our local Mind, Body & Spirit Exhibition. People are able to experience Reiki first hand. The conditions are far from ideal. Despite being noisy and crowded, however, it is possible to enjoy a blissful experience in just a few minutes.
On one busy afternoon, Gary came up to the stand. He had returned several times during the day, awaiting an opportunity to experience a treatment. Gary was using a stick to help him walk. He explained that he had injured his spine in a workplace accident some five years previously and was in constant pain.
His face was strained as he lay down on the treatment couch. As hands were placed on him, Gary began to relax. During his treatment, one or two other practitioners joined in.
At the end of the treatment, Gary was smiling broadly. He confided that for the first time since the accident he was pain-free. He cautiously stood up without the aid of his walking stick, amazed by what had happened.
Gary hadn’t been interested in experiencing Reiki. It was his wife, Ros, who had persuaded him. Being sceptical, he’d doubted it could help.
Gary and Ros decided to learn Reiki. Before training, Gary had been taking painkillers continually. Since then, he hasn’t needed to. Gary has managed the pain using Reiki. He is so pleased to have found a therapy that not only helps him but is also something he can do for himself.
HANNAH’S STORY
One of the satellite television channels invited us to talk about Reiki on one of their live, afternoon shows. During the interview, viewers were invited to call in. A woman we’ll call Hannah phoned in, wanting to share what turned out to be a fascinating story.
Her husband had been diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour and his outlook was poor. He was offered Reiki to see if it could help. He decided to accept.
After several treatments, he returned to the hospital for a brain scan. While studying the results, the doctor was astonished to discover that the tumour had moved.
He couldn’t explain why, but said that it was now in a place where it could be operated upon. Despite the risk involved, the woman’s husband went ahead with the operation. Her voice became emotional as she described the joy she felt when he made a full recovery.
PAULA’S MIRACLE
Paula had a hole-in-the-heart condition and accepted she would have to endure a number of symptoms all her life. One day she agreed to have a Reiki treatment, although she didn’t have a clear idea of what it was. Paula didn’t mention her condition, as she didn’t feel it was relevant. She was stressed and over-tired. Paula hoped this treatment might help, but had no idea what was to come.
During the treatment, she was aware of something unusual happening. Having never experienced Reiki, she thought it was either something that occurred on a regular basis, or was simply her imagination playing tricks.
When the treatment ended, she felt energized and relaxed. She was taken aback when the practitioner then asked whether she had any kind of problem in her heart area. When she told him about the condition, he went on to tell her that it had been healed.
Having no idea whether or not this could be true, Paula didn’t know what to say. She thanked him and went on her way. Some time later, she returned to the doctor for routine tests. To her astonishment, she was told that, inexplicably, the hole in the heart had healed.
Our hearts have been touched on many occasions by the incredible events we have been privileged to witness. While we never hold a particular expectation in mind, it is always special when change occurs, especially when it makes a significant difference to the quality of a person’s life.
A FULL TREATMENT
Demonstrations are a great way to experience Reiki, and while short hands-on treatments are helpful, a full treatment is ideal. This takes about an hour. It is usual to lie down, ideally on a treatment table, covered by a light blanket if it is cool. Other than taking off an outdoor coat and shoes, you would be fully clothed for the treatment.
The practitioner usually explains what happens during a treatment, so you have an idea of what to expect. Sometimes, relaxing music is played. Some practitioners place essential oils in a burner to give off a pleasant aroma. Whatever the setting, the environment is conducive to relaxation, letting you make the most of the experience.
During the session, hands are placed in a number of positions on both the front and back of the body. If a person expresses the need for attention to be given to a particular area, then it is likely this part will be focused upon. However, this is not always the case, as Reiki tends to treat the underlying causes of disease, rather than focusing on individual symptoms. The practitioner may start to treat a particular area, only to find another area is drawing a lot more energy. When this happens, the practitioner follows his or her instincts.
Everyone experiences Reiki differently. Some fall asleep immediately and are unaware of anything for the duration. Others feel tingling, vibration or warmth. Sometimes tears surface. Usually people experience a blissful, euphoric feeling, which they find soothing.
FITTING REIKI INTO A BUSY DAY
Reiki can be fitted into the busiest of days, being the perfect antidote to stress. It is an invaluable tool for restoring depleted energy. Those who have taken Reiki training use it anywhere, because all you need are your hands.
It is possible to use Reiki to rebalance the system before an illness manifests. The benefits of calming the mind down at an early stage cannot be over-stated. Clear thinking can go a long way towards the prevention of possible accidents, whether in the home, workplace or while driving. If a short treatment isn’t possible and you succumb to a headache or an infection, then Reiki can help minimize the symptoms and bring early relief.
It is easy to give yourself a quick treatment during a busy day. Whether travelling, sitting at a desk, waiting for an
