Т-регуляторные клетки играют ведущую роль во многих иммунологических процессах – регулируют Т-клеточный гомеостаз, предотвращают аутоиммунные заболевания, аллергии, гиперчувствительность, реакцию «трансплантат против хозяина». Вместе с тем регуляторные Т-клетки снижают противоопухолевый иммунитет и иммунитет к инфекциям.
