On the subject of history, the Scotsman seems grievously disappointed that the Bannockburn event was sold out and decided that the key story was the queues to get in.
I phone the editor, Ian Stewart, whom I have always found a thoroughly decent guy. That makes the suicidal direction of the paper all the more inexplicable. Is it possible that the few remaining readers of his paper probably want to feel good about their country rather than bad?
