responses described in this chapter must be practiced with partners. Begin slowly, so that you have complete knowledge of what you are trying to do. Gradually speed up the attack situations and your responses in meeting them. Seek to build an automatic response by frequent daily practices several times a week.
Practice in normal daily garb and do not limit yourself to smooth, flat surfaces such as a gym floor. Try to practice on grass, gravel, paved and unpaved surfaces: surfaces that will bring you closer to the actual conditions likely to be encountered in a real emergency.
The responses in this chapter are given in terms of one side, right or left, but in many instances the other side may be practiced by simply reversing the instructions.
