       LEARNING OBJECTIVES

After completing this lesson, you will be able to:

      1. Create a Master Architectural template.

CREATE A MASTER FEET-INCHES SETUP TEMPLATE

The following instructions will guide you through creating a “Master” Feet-inches setup template. This setup template is very similar to the setup template you may have made while using the Beginning workbook but there are a few differences.

       Note:

This template is for “Architectural Inch” units of measurement and no longer used in countries where the metric unit of measurement is used. It is still good practice for metric users, so have a go and see how you do. There have been occasions when I have had to use Architectural drawings that use the inch system.

       NEW SETTINGS

      A. Begin your drawing with a different template as follows:

      1. Select the NEW command.

      2. Select template file acad.dwt from the list of templates. (Not acad3D.dwt)

      3. Save the drawing as: My Feet-Inches Setup but keep the drawing open.

      B. Set the drawing Units as follows:

      1. Type UNITS <enter>

      2. Change the Type and Precision as shown.

      3. Select OK button.

      C. Set the Drawing Limits (Size of the drawing area) as follows:

      1. Type Limits <enter>

      2. Select OFF

“Off” means that your drawing area in Modelspace is unlimited. You will control the plotting with the layout tabs. (Paperspace)

      D. Set the Grids and Snap as follows:

      1. Type DS<enter>

      2. Select the Snap and Grid tab

      3. Change the settings as shown below.

      4. Select the OK button.
