Lost Muscle Car Dealerships. Duncan Scott Brown

      The barbershop is attached to the former Dana Hi-Performance building. The barbershop likely inhabits a former automotive service building or office. The for lease space is part of the old Dana layout.

      The Post-Dana Years

      In February 1968, Carroll Shelby bought the former Dana Chevrolet Lola racer and, under Peyton Cramer’s guidance, entered it in the US Road Racing Championship (USRRC). Peyton’s racing action seemed to seamlessly carry forth despite the rift with Paul and the loss of the Dana dealership. Nothing and nobody could ruffle Peyton Cramer.

      Peyton went on to form a slew of Torrance, California–area dealerships: Peyton Cramer Ford, Peyton Cramer Lincoln Mercury, and Peyton Cramer Jaguar. He also built up Mazda and Infinity franchises. Peyton successfully ran all these dealerships but didn’t use performance as his niche angle for any of them. When the muscle car era died off, Peyton adapted to the new world around him. AutoNation bought out the Cramer franchises and he retired in the 1990s.

      After selling the Dana dealerships, Paul Dombroski moved to Temecula, California, and switched careers. He spent the rest of his life training horses. Paul died on August 18, 2011, at the age of 80.

      South-Lyn Auto Sales has retained most of the original Dana Hi-Performance lot and building layout. Current South-Lyn staff state that the interior of the building hasn’t changed from the Dana days.

      To the right of the canvas tent, the South-Lyn offices are now in the original main sales office used by Dana Hi-Performance.

      Dick Guldstrand moved his hot rod shop from Culver City to Burbank in 2000 and continued to work and interact with Corvette clubs up to the end. Dick died on September 2, 2015, at the age of 87.

      Sundown at South-Lyn Auto Sales shows that this lot is mostly unchanged from the days when it was Dana Chevrolet Hi-Performance Center. In the twilight zone before night, it is possible to imagine this lot has high-performance Chevys parked there instead of modern imports.
