dirge

      Desperate for a god

      Who is only talked about

By people looking for a sovereign ruler

      And finding none

      Especially in themselves?

      I pray for prosperity

      What else?

Money the source of all evil

      And everything else

      Especially shrimp ‘n grits

      And beachfront property

      Is that so?

Is there something wrong with an Escalade

Or a vacation home in St. Tropez

      Or will your hurricanes

      Destroy that too?

      Am I so arrogant

      So filled with hate

That the universe is no longer comfortable with me

      At least

Not since I began to speak?

I still bow down to tabernacles

      Especially the baroque

      And recite rosaries at funerals

      Along with the devout

      And utter Under God

When I pledge allegiance to the flag

      And indivisible

They buy and sell the working class

      The out-of-working class

      And the high fructose

      Incapacitated class

      Going mad

      With dementia and Diabetes II

What do you plan to do with us?

      O God, whoever you are

      Wherever you hide

      We clearly cannot save ourselves

Surely, Lord, you bless the righteous Do you?

      Who are they?

      Democrat or Republican?

      Have mercy on me

      The unknowing

      Uncomprehending

      Brain Dead

      Me

      Deliver me

      Accept the prayers

Of one drowning in the dark

Weak from the sorrow of the world

And when you think of it

      Destroy the destroyers too

      In Jesus name, Amen

      Psalm Six

1 O God, rebuke me not in thine anger,Neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure.2 Have mercy upon me, O God; for I am withered away:O God, heal me; for my bones are troubled.3 My soul also is sore troubled:And thou, O God, how long?4 Return, O God, deliver my soul:Save me for thy loving kindness’ sake.5 For in death there is no remembrance of thee:In Sheol who shall give thee thanks?6 I am weary with my groaning;Every night make I my bed to swim;I water my couch with my tears.7 Mine eye wasteth away because of grief; It waxeth old because of all mine adversaries.8 Depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity; For God hath heard the voice of my weeping.9 God hath heard my supplication;God will receive my prayer.10 All mine enemies shall be put to shame and sore troubled:They shall turn back, they shall be put to shame suddenly.

Lord, who am I talking to?

      I beg you

Do not rebuke me in your anger

I am the one rebuking me

I tell you my bones are in agony

You or someone else not you

      Tells me to see the

      Orthopedic surgeon

      Or maybe a neurologist

      Like a wife abused

      Beaten, raped, reviled

I have given up waiting on your name

Knowing it’s only a matter of time

      Before I too

      Am delivered to the flames

My ashes scattered to the winds

Have you given birth to my soul

To let me drown in the dark of the world?

      Have you encouraged multiple creeds

So believers can kill and maim

      In your name

      And drag me into madness

      Imprinting on my newborn soul

      Tribe as Higher Power?

      My analyst takes notes

      For the revelation

      That I am acting out

      With anger

      And resentment

      And fury

      For being alive

      Apparently

I no longer wait on a Messiah

Only for the Garden of Eden to return

      At least in my imagination

      Dancing girls

      With incredible legs

      And breasts that bounce

      To intoxicate me

      And mesmerize me

      And love me

      More than you

Or do I want to be worshipped too?

      Psalm Seven

1 O God my God, in thee do I take refuge:Save me from all them that pursue me, and deliver me,2 Lest they tear my soul like a lion,Rending it in pieces, while there is none to deliver.3 O God my God, if I have done this;If there be iniquity in my hands;4 If I have rewarded evil unto him that was at peace with me (Yea, I have delivered him that without cause was mine adversary;)5 Let the enemy pursue my soul, and overtake it;Yea, let him tread my life down to the earth,And lay my glory in the dust. 6 Arise, O God, in thine anger;Lift up thyself against the rage of mine adversaries,And awake for me; thou hast commanded judgment.7 And let the congregation of the peoples compass thee about; And over them return thou on high.8 God ministereth judgment to the peoples:Judge me, O God, according to my righteousness, And to mine integrity that is in me.9 Oh let the wickedness of the wicked come to an end, But establish thou the righteous:For the righteous God trieth the minds and hearts.10 My shield is with God,Who saveth the upright in heart.11 God is a righteous judge,Yea, a God that hath indignation every day.12 If a man turn not, he will whet his sword; He hath bent his bow, and made it ready;13 He hath also prepared for him the instruments of death; He maketh his arrows fiery shafts.14 Behold, he travaileth with iniquity;Yea, he hath conceived mischief, and brought forth falsehood.15 He hath made a pit, and digged it,And is fallen into the ditch which he made.16 His mischief shall return upon his own head,And his violence shall come down upon his own pate.17 I will give thanks unto God according to his righteousness,And will sing praise to the name of God Most High.

      Lordy Lordy

      Let’s talk about you
